Agenda:

Day one morning: Infusing effective multilingual strategies into general learning situations (teachers and co-teachers) Laws, expectations, and action plans for a school system regarding multilingual learners (administrators, teachers, co-teachers)

Day 2 all day: Understand WIDA standards, implementation, and assessments. Creating tools and plans to deliver multilingual learning lessons and adaptations.

CEUs: Teacher CEU; Administrator CEU

Relicensure requirement: English Language Learner

Learning objectives:

  • Awareness and compliance with laws and expectations, including multilingual learners (EL/ESL).

  • Understand how to work with combined multilingual and general education populations.

  • Inclusion of multilingual learners in the MTSS model and how to assess and use data to implement research-based practices.

Description:

This workshop is designed for awareness, action, and implementation regarding expectations and learning for all students, including those who may not speak English for their first language. Topics will include funding, accountability systems, writing/implementing an LIEP plan (required by state law), special education and EL, and family/community engagement. 

About the leader:

Dr. Amy Young will lead this training. Dr. Young is the english language (EL) specialist for school support at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Previously, she was an EL coordinator, elementary principal, and has taught at New York University and the University of Minnesota.
