Project support meets practical experience
Planning for an intern?
Follow these steps:
- Apply for internship reimbursement. Sourcewell staff will review and ensure funds are available.
- Recruit and hire the intern using your organization’s hiring process. Once hired, send the intern's name to community@sourcewell-mn.gov.
- Sourcewell will provide a DocuSign agreement. You and Sourcewell staff must sign the document via electronic signature. Once the agreement is fully executed, the internship can start, and reimbursable hours can begin.
- Submit your completed Internship Reimbursement Request form and the intern’s payroll documentation to Sourcewell at the end of the internship.
- Get reimbursed $15/hour for 640 hours over the entire placement (up to 16 or 32 weeks depending on intern’s enrollment status).

Nonprofits must be a 501(c)(3) serving in Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, or Wadena county in central Minnesota, and must have a minimum of one full-time paid staff person or an equivalent. For example, a .75 FTE director and a .25 FTE office manager.
The intern must have a high school diploma or GED diploma and align with one of these scenarios at the time of application:
- Be registered with a post-secondary institution (minimum of part-time).

Reimbursement availability
Reimbursement is available on a first-come, first-served basis as Sourcewell funding permits. Local government and nonprofit entities may have one intern per career discipline per semester. For example, a county can have multiple interns but only one intern within each career discipline (social services, corrections, etc.). Each intern is limited to two agreements.
Shared commitment
The facilitating entity is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and supervising. Sourcewell provides financial support of $15/hour up to 640 hours for the duration of the internship.
