Learning objectives:

  • Learn to identify and describe the 11 Tribal Nations in Minnesota, including their history, governance, and cultural significance.

  • Explore the cultural heritage of Native American communities in Minnesota, focusing on land, the significance of place, language, and other cultural traditions.

  • Examine the contemporary contributions of Minnesota's Native American communities, highlighting their impact on society, education, arts, and policy.

Description:

As of 2023, Minnesota state legislation requires educators to include learning on the cultural heritage and contemporary contributions of American Indians, with particular emphasis on Minnesota Tribal Nations, as a part of their licensure renewal process. This course is designed to provide in-depth learning on the outlined areas, as well as offer additional learning opportunities for the future.
