Description:
This workshop will offer you ways for your students to be thinkers beyond rote memorization and repetitive calculations. Jessica Strom, mathematics educator in a small rural Minnesota school, will introduce you to 14 teaching practices for enhancing learning, engagement, and discourse in your math classroom. Learn how to apply these practices to engage your students in learning mathematics.
About the leader:
Jessica Strom will lead this training.
Jessica Strom has been teaching math at the Win-E-Mac school for 23 years. She has been researching and using the Building Thinking Classroom practices for over 8 years, while also sharing the practices with other teachers through PD days, conferences, workshops and webinars. Jessica has had the opportunity to work with Peter Liljedahl. She served on the MCTM board as a Regional Director from 2017 to 2020, as high school vice principal from 2020 to 2023 and was just voted as the next MCTM president. She received the 2021 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
