Developing and recruiting teachers is changing too

Teachers drive the future. They inspire students to create solutions for making our world a better place and are at the forefront of meeting the challenges of the future.

It's easy to see why we need to recruit the very best teachers for our children.

Sourcewell partners with local schools, the Minnesota Department of Education, various teacher preparation partners, and others to address the teacher shortage — seeking to not only fill the gap but raise the bar.

We're working with school districts and other partners to:

Research and develop short- and long-term programs to help schools in the five-county service area recruit and retain staff, including teachers, bus drivers, counselors, and more.

Create and maintain strong partnerships with university field supervisors and deans for collaboration and partnership in the Central Minnesota Student Teacher Program, Special Education Teacher Pipeline, and more.
Promote our region’s communities and schools to prospective student teachers and teaching candidates at career fairs and other events.

We know that getting student teachers to spend time in our schools is the surest way to entice them to live and work here.

Word of mouth about this program is spreading among college students! Growing from three student teacher placements in 2022 to ten in 2024, student teachers from eight different universities have elected to complete their clinical experiences in central Minnesota. Is your district willing to host a prospective new hire? Cooperating teachers earn a $500 stipend from Sourcewell in addition to any stipend received from the university.
