Learning objectives:

  • Understand the body’s fear and defense system and how to regulate and help regulate behaviors.

  • Define trauma, types of traumas, and the effects of trauma.

  • Introduce basic/beginning trauma informed practices that support resilience.

Description:

To support students affected by trauma, educators must first understand the various types of traumas (beyond ACEs) and how trauma affects the brain and behavior in both students and adults. This equity-infused training includes an introduction to trauma-informed practices that support resilience.

About the leader:

Lisa Worden, an education consultant at Sourcewell, will lead this training. Much of Worden's work centers around social and emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and mental health and wellness. She also facilitates Elevate Community Impact Series, Cultural Competency, and is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer. Lisa’s background includes classroom teacher (grades 3-6), gifted education, and post-secondary instruction.
