Description:
Join your regional COMPASS math team for an informative session focused on the shifts in the math standards. This session will provide educators with an overview of the core changes in the standards and how they impact both teaching and learning in the mathematics classroom. We will explore the three key components of the "rigor stool"—conceptual understanding, procedural proficiency, and application—and discuss how they shape effective math instruction. Additionally, we'll examine the implementation timeline (new standards assessed in 2028), the Mathematical Practices and how they can be integrated into your teaching to enhance student learning.
About the leader:
Chris Castillero, Sourcewell COMPASS math lead, will lead this training.
Castillero has excelled in various roles: teacher, instructional coach, assessment specialist, district math curriculum coordinator, regional math director, and state mathematics lead. He strives to inspire students with innovative teaching strategies, create engaging learning environments, and foster a collaborative community among educators to adapt to the evolving educational landscape.
