Description:

The third edition of this PREPaRE workshop develops the knowledge and skill required to provide immediate mental health crisis interventions to the students, staff, and school community members who have been simultaneously exposed to an acute traumatic stressor. The knowledge and skill developed within this session also helps to build a bridge to the psychotherapeutic and trauma informed mental health response sometimes required to address challenges associated with trauma exposure.

About the leader:

Scott A. Woitaszewski, Ph.D., NCSP and Todd A. Savage, Ph.D., NCSP, will lead this training.

Dr. Savage is a professor in the school psychology program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a former NASP president. His research focuses on school safety, crisis prevention, and supporting LGBTQ+ students through culturally responsive practice and social justice. Dr. Woitaszewski is a professor and training director of the school psychology program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. His work centers on school safety, crisis prevention, and behavioral threat assessment. Over the past decade, they have co-facilitated more than 100 PREPaRE workshops nationwide.
