Description:
Would you like to know how to have a cohesive AVID system at your school? Come and spend a day with Shannon Bailey and Karin Swainey reviewing the AVID framework, learning and collaborating with other administrators from AVID schools in the region. You will learn what AVID can look like in your district, reflect on your current practices, and determine what will be your next steps. You will learn the critical methods of AVID schoolwide and learn how to build capacity with AVID professional development and determine what it can look like at a district leader level. This is an annual AVID District Leaders event.
About the leader:
Shannon Bailey and Karin Swainey will lead this training.
Bailey is an AVID Midwest Area Program Manager who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role supporting AVID schools and districts in Minnesota and Iowa. She taught in the Hopkins Public School District in Minnesota for twenty years. Before transitioning to work directly with the AVID Center 9 years ago, she was an AVID Elective teacher and site coordinator and led the district’s AVID Secondary and Elementary program implementation as their AVID District Director. Shannon is also an AVID Staff Developer for both the AVID District Director Leadership and the AVID Elective Teacher training series. She loves cooking and traveling and lives in Minneapolis with her husband David, dog Ivan, and cat Blue.
Swainey is an AVID Midwest Area Program Manager that supports schools and districts in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She lives in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota where she was a teacher for 10 years. She then decided to get her principal license and become a district administrator, where one of her roles was to serve as the AVID District Director for 6 years. Karin has been working for AVID for almost 8 years now. In addition to her AVID district support, Swainey is one of the organization’s leaders with the AVID Excel program and she is an AVID Staff Developers for the Site Leadership Communities of Practice.
