Prerequisites: Once registered, participants must complete 10 minutes of online pre-assessment work.

CEUs: Teacher CEU; Administrator CEU

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).

  • Better understand trauma, substance use, selfcare and the impact of social media and bullying.

  • Understand how to interact and support a young person experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.

Description:

Identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among young people. You’ll build the skills and confidence you need to recognize early warnings signs of a mental health challenge and how to reach out and provide initial and continuing support to young people experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, including suicide. You will also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

About the leader:

Lisa Worden, an education consultant at Sourcewell, will lead this training. Much of her work centers around social and emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and mental health and wellness. She facilitates Elevate Community Impact, Cultural Competency, and is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer. Lisa’s background includes classroom teacher (grades 3-6), gifted education, and post-secondary instruction.

Recommended follow-up:

Following the in-person training, participants will need to complete modules 5-7 in the learning management system.
