Prerequisites: Once registered, participants must complete 10 minutes of online pre-assessment work.

Learning objectives:

Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).

Better understand trauma, substance use, selfcare and the impact of social media and bullying.

Understand how to interact and support a young person experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
Description:
Identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among young people. You’ll build the skills and confidence you need to recognize early warnings signs of a mental health challenge and how to reach out and provide initial and continuing support to young people experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, including suicide. You will also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.
About the leader:
Lisa Worden, an education consultant at Sourcewell, will lead this training. Much of her work centers around social and emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and mental health and wellness. She facilitates Elevate Community Impact, Cultural Competency, and is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer. Lisa’s background includes classroom teacher (grades 3-6), gifted education, and post-secondary instruction.

Following the in-person training, participants will need to complete modules 5-7 in the learning management system.
